John F. Whitehorn, M.D. has a distinguished medical career. He earned his medical degree at The University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, TN and his postdoctoral training was completed at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Service as an Air Force Flight Surgeon in Southeast Asia and Europe was followed by more than thirty years of medical service in Dallas where his activities included teaching, public speaking (both nationally and internationally) regarding the benefits of preventative medicine, authoring a book, and all while maintaining a very busy private medical practice. He was initially board certified in 1976 and in 1991, was awarded lifetime membership as a “Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.” Insight and leadership prompted him to be instrumental in formation of the Family Practice Residency Program at Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas and in 1981, he was appointed “Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Practice and Community Medicine” at University of Texas Health Science Center, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

Kara Ellison, PA-C was born and raised in Eastern New Mexico. She earned her undergraduate degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1991, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis on science and art. After teaching for more than ten years and continuously pursuing post-graduate studies, she returned to the academic arena fulltime. While living in Albuquerque, NM, Kara earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in 2003 through the University of St. Francis, Joliet, IL. Following graduation, she chose to reside in Texas actively practicing Family Medicine. In 2004 she was honored by St. Joseph Health System by selecting her as the recipient of “Values in Action Excellence Award”. She and her husband now live in Weatherford, Texas.
